Wandering Lens Photography

Wandering Lens Photography has had an overhaul, and now has a whole new site design. I've included scripting from Zen Photo for my photo galleries, and Word Press for my blog titled Echos of a Wanderer.

I will be working with my new site at wanderinglens.net for a while. I plan on upgrading this site in a similar fassion in about 6 months.

I'm Back!!

It's been a long time. Since I left you in Nepal, a lot has changed, but every thing is the same.

The exciting news at the moment is that operation of the first ever self sustaining Wizzy Courier route just began.

You can read about Habeni Primary here

Yes, that means my blog is back, and I'll be posting again. What about the pictures? They are coming too. I have taken so many since December, that I'm still working through them. Expect to be bombarded by massive amounts of amazing pictures soon!

Until then, sit back, check the blog, and we'll chat soon.

Nepal

I have been in Nepal since the begining of December. I have been living in two very rural villages, Sarkuwa, and Ramkot. I am here for a month working with 4 schools. I have taken many pictures, but do to computer limitations, I will not be able to post photo galleries until Feb. Preliminary photos and stories can be found on my Nepal Blog.

My South Africa Blog will resume in late january when I return to South Africa.

Shembe Festival

On the last sunday in October, I attended the end of the Shembe celebrations near Eshowe. The Shembe is a Zulu Baptist Prophet, who travels around from place to place, a month at a time, and a band of followers erect make shift villages around his many homes to celebrate. There is lots of singing, dancing, praying, lolli-gagging, going on everywhere.

I took more photos at this event than I have taken at any single event before. I was there most of the day, amongst 4 white people, and 15,000 zulus.

To take the photo journey, view the full gallery here.

To read the story, listen to the music, and see a few select photos, check out the blog entry here.

Stuck in Nkandla

I've recently spent some time bicycling to schools in Nkandla, and got stuck by a violent thunder storm. Nkandla is know for it's storms, and it's no joke. The people were friendly, and the area very rural.

Check out the whole story here.

Wandering Lens Photography and AVA CBB in the press!

Bicycle Northwest, and online magazine has recently run an article about AVA/Counterbalance. They elected to use my photography for the article.

You can read the article here

Sangoma Healing Ceremony

I was taken into a Sangoma Healing Ceremony, where people from all over come to ask advice from their ancestors, and for solutions to their problems. We attended the ceremony in a mud hut on a hill over looking a vast valley. Lots of singing and dancing, praying, eating, and drinking.

To listen to an explanation of the ceremony given to me before we entered, and to a couple of the songs, check out the blog entry here

John Wesley Kosi Bay Primary School

I recently visited John Wesley Primary, which is a private school on the edge of eManguzi, near Kosi Bay. This is north east KZN, close to the Mozambique border. I will be installing a lab for them at the beginning of November. I had the opportunity to witness a cricket match their school played. The photos can be viewed here.

Lake Phoban Pics

I've moved on from Muizenberg, and have arrived in Eshowe. I traveled to Lake Phoban today to take some pics, check them out here.

Table Mountain National Park Photos

From Muizenberg, I walked straight up into the hills and hiked around Table Mountain National Park for several hours. This isn't Table Mountain itself, which is in Cape Town, but part of the park and the same range.

Check out the photos here

Blog update

I'm currently in Cape Town, South Africa. Things are progressing steadily, I'm getting set up, and in touch with the people I need to be. Details of my travels are outlined in my blog, which has become media rich. I've included many photographs, as well as audio recordings. If your internet connection is slow, I would recommend viewing the text only blog, although it is much less complete.

South Africa

South Africa is a go!! I will be spending the next 8 months in South Africa working with Wizzy Digital in schools in KwaZulu-Natal. I will be posting photos and stories on my blog, and full photo galleries with the rest of my photos on www.wanderinglens.net.

I will still be available for online photo orders, with the possibility of a small delay. Unfortunately I will not be available for on location shoots until next April, unless you happen to be in South Africa.

Read my blog here.

Echo of a Wanderer

Echo of a Wanderer is an emotional walk through three countries: Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos.

An innovative approach to film, Echo of a Wanderer is a slide show of stills supporting actual conversations, music, and noises a backpacker encounters. With all content captured in asia except the sparse narration, one can be sure their experience is authentic.

In 2004 and 2005 I travelled through SE Asia recording conversations and taking pictures. My stories, photos, and the short film Echo of a Wanderer can be found here...
